David

I am a freelance psychotherapeutic counsellor, and clinical supervisor based in the East Midlands.

The Eden Practice, created 12 years ago, was born of both necessity and concern – recognising the adverse consequences of medicalising emotional distress, indifference to personal narrative, and the limited consideration of lived experience.

My aspiration is to meet you where you are, as a person, without judgement, not as a list of disorders or abnormalities, I offer an alternative to the clinical categorisation of emotional distress.

Whilst I recognise the terminology, and understand the clinical context – and what significance this might have for you; understanding also that this might also be of some comfort. This might also limit the potential to heal, and grow.  In either case, you will be met as you are, and your own beliefs wholly respected.

I see and hear you as another human being, with understanding, truthfulness, empathy, and compassion, I will be with you each step of the way.

My conventional training, MA* Trauma Informed Practice; BA* Humanistic Counselling Practice, has been fundamental to my role as a counselling psychotherapist, and a Clinical Supervisor. Nonetheless, my life experience has been equally as invaluable.

“Making changes in life is never easy, yet, expressing your thoughts and feelings in confidence, and with someone who can ensure a compassionate and empathetic space is empowering”.

I have a great deal of experience in counselling for severe and persistent low-mood, commonly referred to as anxiety or depression; and often resulting in loss of purpose, and of self – who you are.

This might be the result of adverse life experiences, bereavement, substance or alcohol misuse, or psychological trauma. Emphatically – “my belief is that what happens to us in life is of greater importance than what is perceived to be wrong with us”.
